Countdown to Pitchers and Catchers…

Looking out at a frozen-over Otsego Lake here in Cooperstown, it’s wonderful to know that in just a few days, pitchers and catchers will be reporting for Spring Training. Is baseball your true love? Is baseball your true love? Is it just a coincidence that the start of spring training is always around Valentine’s Day?

Here’s a helpful spring training schedule for each MLB team. You can find out when your favorite MLB team reports for spring training.

If you’ve been to Cooperstown in the summer, you may be surprised to know that the lake is now frozen solid, with more than a few ice fishing shacks for very hearty fishermen. This weekend is Winter Carnival in Cooperstown, a fun event that encourages us all to embrace the cold and celebrate with friends and neighbors. Thoughts of baseball will keep me warm, and maybe some hot chocolate with our shortbread baseball cookies.

Warmly,

Pati

World Baseball Classic, celebrating the worldwide love of baseball

The world loves baseball!

The world loves baseball!

It was just announced that tickets for Round 1 of the World Baseball Classic are now on sale. A quick look at the teams and venues show how baseball is loved, and played, around the world.

In March 2009:

  • Teams from China, Chinese Taipei, Japan and Korea will play in Tokyo.
  • Teams from Australia, Cuba, Mexico and South Africa will play in Mexico City.
  • Teams from Italy, the United States, Canada and Venezuela will play in Toronto.
  • Teams from the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands, Panama and Puerto Rico will play in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

I had the pleasure of being in Puerto Rico for the first World Baseball Classic, an incredible experience.

Did you know?
The Cooperstown Cookie Company has baseball gifts with an international flavor. Our Baseball…Anyone Can Play t-shirts and mugs, created with the National Baseball Hall of Fame, feature baseball trivia questions (and answers) written in English, Spanish and Japanese. World Series Gala at the Baseball Hall of Fame

Enjoy Classic Baseball Shortbread Cookies at the World Series Gala

Plan now to attend the wonderful World Series Gala at the National Baseball Hall of Fame, on Saturday, October 25 at 7:30 pm. This family event features a live broadcast of Game 3 of the Series, which will be played in the National League Champ’s park. According to the Hall of Fame, the fun-filled evening will feature refreshments, trivia, raffles, prizes and more as fans watch the game from the Hall of Fame on big screens in either the Grandstand Theater or the Plaque Gallery.

The Gala is where I launched the Cooperstown Cookie Company in 2004. I still remember people’s first reaction to our baseball cookies that night. “Wow!” “Little Baseballs, and they taste great too!” “Can I have some more? And some more?” We’ve been earning similar kudos every day since then. I never get tired of introducing new people to our great-tasting baseball cookies.

We’ve been a part of the World Series Gala and the All-Star Gala ever since. They are great events at the home of baseball. If you’re coming, be sure to come by the Cooperstown Cookie Company table. It would be great to meet you in person! We’ll have samples of our baseball treats, and we’ll be giving away to baseball cookie towers. Also on hand will be the winner of our first-ever Ultimate Cooperstown Baseball Weekend. Fun!

Cooperstown on Induction Day

Today, all baseball looks to the little village of Cooperstown, as Goose Gossage and other baseball greats are officially inducted to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. It’s exciting to have so many people who love baseball come to Cooperstown. We’ve been vending on Main Street, talking to fans from all over the country. It’s a happy group of people, and we’ve seen more than a few Hall of Famers strolling the streets as well.

We’re hoping for good weather for this afternoon.

Happy Summer, Cooperstown Cookie Company on the Road

Riding in the Hall of Fame Game Parade, Cooperstown, June 16We had a great time riding in the Hall of Fame Game parade, and handing out Classic Baseball Shortbread “Bunts,” our popular bite-sized cookies to parade-goers. The game, sadly, was rained out (hail, thunder, lightning, driving rain, it was quite a show!).

We were glad for the opportunity to talk with baseball fans at our tent in front of Main Street’s Doubleday Cafe. We sold a lot of cookies, including our Ballpark Bunt Box (now on sale) and cookie tins.

You can enjoy our cookies, rain or shine, by ordering online, www.CooperstownCookie.com.

Also, as New York City gears up for the All-Star Game, the Cooperstown Cookie Company will be there. Billed as “the largest baseball interactive spectacular in the world,” All-Star FanFest will be held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, July 11-15. Be sure to stop by the Cooperstown Cookie Company booth! We gave out Baseball Cookie \"Bunts\" to Hall of Fame parade goers.

Hall of Fame Game in Cooperstown

Coming to Cooperstown for the Hall of Fame Game on June 16?

The Cooperstown Cookie Company is a sponsor of the Cooperstown Game Day Parade, which means we’ll have a car full of baseball cookie fans riding in the parade, and I’ll be walking alongside, passing out treats to parade-goers. The parade starts at 12 noon, pick a shady spot along Main Street to watch the fun! The Chicago Cubs and the San Diego Padres will ride in the parade in trolleys. It’s a great chance to see big leaguers in Baseball’s Hometown.

Be sure to stop by the Cooperstown Cookie Company table on Main Street, we’ll be in front of the Doubleday Cafe (93 Main Street). We welcome all fans, whether you’re rooting for the Padres, the Cubs, or just want to enjoy the chance to see Major League teams compete in historic Doubleday Field. The Homerun Derby starts at 1 pm, and the game is at 2 pm.

The Baseball Hall of Fame has events throughout the weekend. The Hall of Fame Game has sold out, but the Hall of Fame says any returned tickets will be made available at 9 a.m. on Hall of Fame Game Day, June 16, in the Doubleday Field parking lot.
